Our endodontist at Foundation Endodontics is proud of the advances in our specialty that allow us to provide pain-relieving, tooth-saving treatment for infections deep inside the teeth, as well as certain types of cracked teeth. Our experience and technological advancements add up to a more comfortable experience and effective, long-lasting relief for our patients.
And although performing root canals is what we’re known for, we’d be remiss if we didn’t address the route you can take to potentially avoid needing our treatment. Here are some insights on maintaining strong, healthy teeth.
- It (almost) goes without saying that maintaining a strong oral hygiene regimen is the bedrock of preventing tooth decay, which is a leading cause of root canals. Brush twice daily with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste for two minutes each time, covering all surfaces. Floss once a day, one tooth at a time, guiding the floss up and down the entire tooth to the gum line.
- Even if your teeth and gums feel fine, don’t skip regular checkups with your dentist. Detecting cavities early, when they can be more easily treated with fillings, can prevent the need for more complicated procedures later on.
- To prevent plaque buildup and tooth decay, limit sugary foods and drinks that promote bacteria in the mouth.
- Reduce the risk of incurring a dental injury while playing sports by making a mouthguard part of your protective equipment. Same thing goes if you’re grinding your teeth at night.
- Be aware of early warning signs like cracks, toothaches and sensitivity to hot and cold foods or beverages. Don’t procrastinate; schedule an appointment with your dentist for an evaluation.
